What are typical coaching topics?
Coaching sessions are tailored around your goals with you setting the agenda. I work with clients who have a wide and diverse range of goals and desires. Common goals include:
Enhancing personal impact
Understanding how to inspire and motivate others
Improving time management
Preparation for role and career changes
Developing confidence and assertiveness skills
Gaining a better work/life balance
What will happen during our first session?
For my individual clients, I offer a free 45-minute session, which will give you the opportunity to explain what your goals and expectations are from coaching and I can answer any questions you may have about the coaching experience. I describe this as a ‘chemistry session’ so that we can start to get to know each other and decide if we would like to work together.
If your organisation is funding the coaching sessions for you, I always suggest that we start by having a three-way conversation with your line manager, to discuss and check whether your coaching goals are aligned with what your manager and the organisation want for you. This is to ensure that we are all moving in the same direction. After that initial discussion, our coaching sessions are completely confidential.
How many coaching sessions will I need?
This can vary from client to client. Normally, I see a client for six sessions, one a month. Sessions last for 90 minutes. However sometimes, particularly for individual clients, it can be more effective to start with a 3-hour intensive coaching session and follow up with shorter sessions in person or on Skype when required.
Can coaching help anybody?
My belief is that coaching can help anybody if they genuinely want to change. If you have no desire for change and are only considering working with a coach because your manager, team or partner want you to, it is unlikely to be a rewarding experience for you.
